Important Details About DCBP

DC Bike Party is a celebration of the bicycle, and Washington DC bicycle community.

We are not a race nor a riot:  We are a free expression to celebrate the presence of a party wherever we are!!

We are a celebration, a party, a free assembly of a growing and vibrant community of urban cyclists who wish to share our love of bicycles with each other and our broader communities.

AS AN ORGANIZATION:

DC BIKE PARTY ARE YOUR FRIENDS!

We Are Your Cycling Sisters and Brothers

We want YOU to ENJOY YOUR BIKE RIDES!

but…

We Are Not Responsible For YOU

Our limited organization organizes routes and as many marshalls as we we can, and

We plan and test routes for general group enjoyment

but… (and This is Important…)

DCBP Does Not Assure Your Security.  Nor do we take any responsibility for your actions; Nor are we responsible for the actions of any riders at any DCBP event; And we certainly are not responsible for any DRIVERS actions.

If you show up at ANY DC BIKE PARTY EVENT you will NOT be asked sign a liability or release form; and you will not be required to identify yourself, and you will not be required to pay any fees.

You are only asked to participate responsibly, have fun, and help contribute to our celebration of the bicycle.

If you do not follow these simple principles, you could face significant social backlash from the DCBP community, but no DCBP “person” holds any material authority over you or any other rider.

Only you are responsible for yourself, and you will have no standing to hold the entire DCBP group or any individual associated with the group liable, nor any actual or perceived “leader”of the group liable for any harm or damage that may result from your participation in the ride.

DC Bike Party is a LEAVE NO TRACE EVENT

We do not litter, we respect this place we all call home.

We do not trample flower beds or tear apart trees when we park our bikes.

We do not leave empty containers, discarded wrappers, cigarette butts, or any other “Matter Out of Place” anywhere accept appropriate recycling, composting, or garbage container.

We endeavor to always improve our contribution to the environment and welcome any feedback.

Keys To a fun, safe and respectful D.C. Bike Party

  • We ride on the right lane, closest to the right, avoiding debris of all sorts
  • Never ride on the sidewalk

  • LIGHTS LIGHTS LIGHTS AND LIGHTS

Be Kind To Each Other

  • Ride straight, be predictable when making ride changes.
  • Call out when you see ahead that can cause danger to another, i.e. “Squirrel!” Or, “Tourist!”

  • Accidents happen but it’s what happens after that also counts. If you should crash with another bicyclist, make sure you are both ok, shake it off and hug it out. Protect your front tire. If you are following someone so closely that your front tire even grazes their back tire, YOU will instantly fall. If you are slowing down, yell, “Slowing!” Otherwise the person behind you will eat leaves.

  • Ride smart, keep your friendly distance.

Be Kind to Cars and Pedestrians

  • Roll away from conflict. We want to be remembered for the joy we bring to this city, not for being aggressive jerks. Ask yourself if engaging in conflict is worth it.

  • Obey traffic signals, stop at lights/ signs.

Help Build Our Community

  • Meet new people, ride with a different crowd, get to know your fellow DMVers

  • BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ENERGY YOU BRING: No negativity, just fun, laughs and good times.

  • Visit your local bike shop and get things you require for changing a flat. You might need it.
